With school well underway at Drayton Mills Elementary in Spartanburg, we’ve loved thinking about the “pitter patter” of feet over this new school’s floors throughout the fall.
This was a project that was infused with creative heart from start to finish. Designer Lynne Wilson from McMillan Pazdan Smith chose a wonderful mix of flooring styles that would be both eye catching and awe inspiring to young learners-in-action.
Walking into the school, Lynne wanted students to feel warm and comfortable. Faux plank wood flooring by Karndean mimics the rustic, yet natural look of original mill floors. Continuing through the high-traffic hallways, you’ll find Armstrong’s durable luxury vinyl tile underfoot. Next is a room we could spend hours in…the “tinker space.” A creative area designed to allow students the ability to think, plan, and create. (We’re so inspired by this room, we may create a tinker space of our own at Hodge Floors!) A unique space like this needed unique floors, so Lynne chose hexagonal luxury vinyl and carpet tiles by Shaw. Next, for any student needing a bit of confirmation that they’re in the right classroom, all they have to do is look down. Each class features Milliken custom carpet tiles that are color-coded by grade. Additionally, the carpet has an integral custom backing which increases comfort, reduces sound, and can easily be replaced when soiled or damaged.
Finished on time and on budget, the Drayton Mills Elementary School project is just one more example of why we love our work, our continued partnerships, and our connection to our thriving community!
